Hulu has confirmed that it is developing a live TV streaming service.
Speaking at the company’s Upfront Presentation and quoted by local media, its CEO Mike Hopkins said it would launch in 2017 but refused to provide details about the service’s pricing and content.
However, it will include live sports, something not currently offered by Hulu’s main competitors Netflix and Amazon.
Hopkins also said that Hulu’s subscriber base has grown by over 30% in year-on-year and will reach 12 million in the US by this month.
Hulu has in addition entered into a partnership with BrightLine to become the first streaming service to deliver first-to-market interactive advertising units built exclusively for the living room.
Furthermore, it is now collaborating with Neilsen to measure OTT viewing in the living room environment for the first time.
