May 4, 2016 10.51 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

kabel einsThe documentary channel currently prepared by German media company ProSiebenSat.1 will carry the name kabel eins Doku.

The free-to-air channel will launch in the second half of 2016 and mainly target men between 40 and 64 years of age, the commercial broadcaster announced in Munich.

The channel’s head will be Thorsten Pütsch, formerly senior vice president, new channel development, at ProSieben Sat.1 TV Deutschland.

“kabel eins Doku will be the first docu channel on German free-TV,” said Pütsch. “We will create a programme line-up focussing on history, real crime, nature and technology.”

The plans for the documentary channel emerged in October 2014. In March 2016, ProSiebenSat.1 confirmed the venture.
