Magyar Telekom ended the first quarter with 963,820 TV customers in its home market Hungary, or 2.9% more than in the same period last year.
In its latest set of results, the company notes that its TV revenues rose by 4.8% quarter over quarter thanks to a higher customer base and increasing ARPUs. Its customer base increased by almost 60,000, driven by new customer acquisitions and migration from cable TV, while its satellite TV customer base remained stable.
It also says that other fixed-line revenues increased in Q1 in part due to more VOD usage.
Meanwhile, in Macedonia its subsidiary saw a year gain of 5.4% in its TV customer base, ending Q1 with 104,203. In Montenegro, on the other hand, the total fell by 1.8% to 59,687.
Magyar Telekom as a whole had revenues of HUF145,051 million (€465.2 million) in Q1, down 7.6% on a year earlier, while its operating profit increased by 45.6% to HUF21,552 million. EBITDA was 13.6% higher at HUF48,248 million.
In his comments on the results, when referring to TV services, the company’s CEO Christopher Mattheisen said: “Following the fixed access network upgrades, we were also able to grow further our fixed broadband and TV customer bases at higher ARPUs in Hungary, which contributed to overall growth of 2.3% in fixed line Group revenues. Group-wide rollout of our quad-play Magenta1 proposition based on the integrated Telekom brand has helped too in promoting our brand and services. We were also able to continue to grow our System Integration and IT revenues, an area of the market which we consider to offer significant development potential and intend to target”.
