German pay-TV broadcaster Sky Deutschland will expand its mobile offer for smartphones and tablets and launch a Sky Sports app and a Sky Kids app later this year.
This was announced by Jeremy Darroch, group chief executive of parent company Sky UK, at the presentation of the Q3 2015/16 figures.
The Sky Kids app which was introduced in the UK and Ireland in March 2016 offers children a safe way to access thousands of hours of kids programmes at no extra cost.
The Sky Sports app is market leader in the UK, according to the broadcaster. Both apps will also be launched in Italy later this year.
Sky Deutschland increased its number of subscribers in the first three months of this year by 73,000 to a total of 4.57 million customers. The growth was slower than in the same period 2015 in which 103,000 new subscribers were added.
With €3 million, Sky Deutschland recorded an operating profit (EBIT) in a third quarter for the first time since the introduction of the Sky brand in Germany and Austria.
