ProSiebenSat.1 stirs up maxdome against VOD rivals

April 20, 2016 23.42 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

maxdome movies (ProSiebenSat.1)German media company ProSiebenSat.1 has revamped its video-on-demand (VOD) service maxdome 10 years after its launch to differentiate it more strongly from competitors including Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Watchever and Sky Online.

The portal now clearly divides its transactional (TVOD) and subscription video-on-demand services (SVOD), introduces movies and series recommendations by an editorial team and offers a new user interface comparable with its national and international counterparts.

Will ProSiebenSat.1’s new VOD strategy pay off? In its latest Snapshot, German research company Veed Analytics focuses on the reshaping of maxdome, compares the key players in the German VOD market and gives an outlook on future developments.

The report confirms the leading position of maxdome in terms of quantity of titles. Another finding: All SVOD players started to decrease their number of movies while increasing the amount of series. Netflix and Amazon focused their movie portfolios on general hits while maxdome kept its stronger local focus. Besides its originals, Netflix has the strongest series portfolio, closely followed by Sky Online and maxdome.

The full Snapshot can be downloaded free of charge from the Veed Analytics website.
