It is testament to how far Netflix has come – and to its popularity – that a 50p price increase is creating so much social media chatter.
The UK increase – simulatenously taking place in the United States – was announced back in 2014. At that time Netflix said that only new subscribers would pay at the high level.
But from May all subscribers will be required to pay £5.99 for standard definition videos, £7.49 for HD content, plus the ability to watch via two screens or £8.99 to watch across four screens.
Naturually enough people have expressed ‘surprise’. Well, civilians don’t read the trade press.
In part the increase will have been brought about by Netflix’s success – subscriber levels having triggered clauses in some contracts.
