Senior Discovery Iberia appointment

April 2, 2016 11.35 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Vera BuzanelloVera Buzanello has been appointed executive VP general manager of Discovery Networks Iberia, responsible for Spain and Portugal.

Based in Madrid, she will, from April 1, report to Marinella Soldi, president & MD for Discovery Networks Southern Europe.

Buzanello’s new role as general manager has a central focus on defining and implementing the growth strategy of Discovery Networks in the region, which includes seven channels.

Having worked for Discovery Networks for 17 years and until now led distribution strategy and affiliate relations for Discovery Latin America (DLA), she will also retain oversight of key strategic distribution relationships for the region.

In doing so, she will continue to work with Enrique R. Martinez, president and MD of DLA/US Hispanic and Canada, and his team throughout the region.

Commenting on the appointment, Soldi said: “Vera is one of the most successful executives in Discovery, experienced in building businesses through productive relationships that drive value for our partners and most importantly for our passionate fans. She will lead the way in bringing to life the Discovery commitment in the region, particularly with a focus on greater investment in content and local talent, while delivering our content to more screens”.

Buzanello added: “I am very excited about this new professional adventure. The team continues to provide excellence in both creative terms and in its production of outstanding original content. My goal is to expand the business in both Spain and Portugal to offer Discovery’s innovative and high quality content to more viewers. I am fully committed to ensuring the Discovery brand becomes an even stronger force amongst viewers, institutions, partners and investors in Iberia’s TV market.”
