Ziggo is to cease offering customers the Ziggo Bapp and UPC Phone apps, which allow customers to make and receive calls from their mobile phone, as if they were using their home calling package.
The news follows the announcmenet that Virgin Media is to drop Smartcall, a similar app, on April 28. In the Netherlands, Ziggo appkies the same cut-off date for the apps.
UPC Nederland launched the app for Android and iOS in 2014, Ziggo launched its Bapp app at around the same time.
These apps make calling via Wi-Fi possible at fixed telephony rates, but according to Ziggo very little use was made of the apps. In the UK, Virgin said that more of its customers are choosing to use alternative apps and services.
