The local TV channels in German federal state Baden-Württemberg will broadcast their channels in HD quality on the cable network of Unitymedia from September 2016.
In return, their 24-hour analogue cable distribution will be terminated on April 26, 2016. For the remaining 15% of cable households who haven’t yet made the transition to digital TV, the local channel’s programmes will be shown each evening between 18.00 and 20.00 CET on the analogue cable channel of Tele 5.
In digital, the local channels will continue to air as 24 hour services on cable. The move affects Regio TV Schwaben (Ulm), Regio TV Bodensee (Ravensburg), Regio TV Stuttgart, Baden TV (Karlsruhe), L-TV (Heilbronn) and RTF1 (Reutlingen).
Baden-Württemberg’s media authority LFK supports the distribution and digitalisation of the local channels with €2.4 million per year.
