German pay-TV broadcaster Sky Deutschland invests in the production of original TV series.
“We will realise up to eight original productions in Germany in the next four years,” CEO Carsten Schmidt told business magazine Wirtschaftswoche.
At costs of up to €1.5 million per episode and eight episodes per series, the total investment amounts to almost €100 million, said Schmidt. The original productions will be co-financed through their sale to sister channels for example in Italy and the UK, he added.
Compared with other countries, the share of households with a pay-TV subscription is low with around 18% in Germany, said Schmidt. “In the long run, we can’t and won’t be satisfied with such figures. We don’t set ourselves a limit for growth.”
