Netflix has no intention of competing with Polish broadcasters in the provision of local films and TV series.
However, speaking to Wirtualne Media, Joris Evers, VP, head of communications for Europe, Middle East and Africa, added that this does not mean to say Netflix will not show any Polish titles.
Indeed, they could appear on condition that they are also of interest to viewers in other markets.
Evers also confirmed that Netflix is open to working with the Polish film industry and that joint projects are very likely to take place in the future.
Evers revealed that over 50% of viewers who had chosen to take Netflix on a one-month trial basis in Poland had opted to subsequently continue and pay for the service.
He also conceded that the small number of localised titles – just over 10% of the total is currently provided with Polish subtitles or voiceover – is a source of disillusionment to some viewers and that this is something Netflix is trying to rectify.
