Romania’s public broadcaster TVR faces the prospect of insolvency but will not be declared bankrupt.
Quoting Calin Popescu Tariceanu, the president if the country’s Senate, Mediafax reports that a package of legislative amendments to the Law on Television will be prepared by this coming Monday, March 7 so that insolvency proceedings can be initiated.
However, TVR cannot be declared bankrupt as it is a public institution.
Tariceanu stressed that parliament is not the only body that must act if TVR is to be saved.
On February 23, Romania’s PM Dacian Ciolos said the government would not allocated money to TVR before July, when making a revision to its budget.
As previously reported in Broadband TV News, the EBU earlier this week appealed directly to the Romanian PM to save TVR.
