Two Italian digital terrestrial channels have a new name: MTV8 has become TV8, and DeeJay TV is now Nove Deejay.
Sky Italia acquired MTV8 from Viacom and has now changed the name of the free-to-air DTT channel into the more generic TV8.
The Viacom-owned channel MTV Music (Italia) remains available FTA on digital terrestrial. The new TV8 has no relationship anymore with MTV or Viacom, but is a Sky-owned general entertainment channel, including series, sports and movies, aimed at a young audience.
Discovery Italy acquired DeeJay TV from the Espresso media group a year ago, and has now changed its name. The channel occupies position no. 9 on the DTT line-up of nationwide FTA channels.
At the moment, public broadcaster RAOI occupies the first three positions on the dial for RAI1, 2 ND 3; Mediaset has the numbers 4, 5 and 6 for Rete 4, Canale 5 and Italia 1.
Number 7 is taken by La7, which until 2013 was owned by Telecom Italia Media and operated by Telecom Italia. It is now owned by Cairo Communications.
