Austrian commercial free-to-air TV broadcaster ATV wants to launch a third channel in October 2016.
This is reported by Austrian industry magazine Horizont with reference to statements made by ATV’s managing director Martin Gastinger at an event hosted by the broadcaster.
ATV Smart, as the new service is dubbed, will not be a classic linear TV channel, but more of a video-on-demand (VOD) platform, according to the publication. Viewers will be able to select the programmes they like most – besides original productions also movies and series from the rights stock of ATV’s parent company Tele München Gruppe (TMG).
ATV declined to give details on the project at this stage.
ATV launched on June 1, 2003; sister channel ATV2 followed on December 1, 2011.
