Spain ended 2015 with 13.178 million fixed broadband connections, or 4% more than a year, according to data produced by the regulator CNMC.
FTTH connections stood at 3.114 million, or double the number a year earlier, with Movistar accounting for 71.3% of the total.
Meanwhile, DSL connections fell during the year, by almost a million in the case of the leading provider Movistar, down from 4.431 million to 3.589 million.
DSL connections from other providers fell by roughly half that number, from 4.533 million to 4.056 million. At the same time, the number of HFC broadband connections rose from 2.151 million to 2.420 million.
As of the end of 2015, Movistar (44.09%) was the market leader in Spain’s fixed broadband sector.
It was followed by Orange (16.27%), Ono (12.31%), Jazztel (12.21%) and Vodafone (10.14%), with other providers claiming a combined share of 4.98%.
