Gibson Innovations has disabled smart TV functionality on Blu-ray and media players with the Philips brand without prior notice to its users.
The decision was made by Gibson Innovations, who acquired the rights to use the Philips brand name on audio and video equipment in 2014.
The affected devices are the 2010 to 2014 models of home theatre systems and Blu-ray and media players (one of which is pictured above) from Philips.
Smart TV sets carrying the Philips brand are not affected by the move. TP Vision currently has the right to sell and market TV sets under the Philips name.
Further research from Myce shows that some apps can still be used with a workaround.
