Bulgaria may shortly have its first “tabloid TV” channel.
Capital reports that the country’s Council for Electronic Media (CEM) will next week examine an application from Nedialko Nedialkov, the owner of the sensationalist sites Pik and Blitz, to launch a new channel named Pik TV.
It adds that experts say the documents meet all the requirements of the law on radio and TV and following the payment of a registration fee of BGN2,250 (€1,146) the application is likely to be approved.
Pik TV would be operated by Pik Broadcasting, a company registered last November that is majority (95%) owned by Nedialkov, with Ivaylo Krachunov, the editor of Pik, holding the remaining 5%.
A 24-hour channel distributed by cable and satellite, Pik TV would make its debut on April 4.
