The National Council of Television and Radio Broadcasting in Ukraine has removed 15 Russian TV channels from the list of foreign services that meet the requirements of the European Convention on Transfrontier Television and Ukrainian laws.
Yuriy Artemenko, the council’s chairman, said that the main reasons for their withdrawal was that they violated the law on national security and advertising legislation.
The channels in question – Top Secret, Who is Who, Chanson TV, Park Razvlechenyy, World Series, Auto Plus, Kitchen TV, KHL, Science 2.0, My Planet, Telecafe, Boets, Time: Far and Near, NST and Dress – were monitored between January 16-28 to identify any violations of Ukrainian legislation.
Ukrainian providers are required to bring their packages into line by March 11 and Volia, the country’s leading cable operator, has already announced its intention to fully comply with the ruling.
