Servus TV will encrypt its channel for viewers in Austria on Astra (19.2° East) from March 1, 2016.
The move will affect both the SD and the HD versions, a spokeswoman of the Austrian commercial TV channel told Broadband TV News.
The decision follows the recent acquisition of the TV rights of motor sports series MotoGP which only cover the territory of Austria. With the encryption of its formerly free to air satellite signal, Servus TV ensures that only domestic DTH households can receive the channel as the ORF SAT smartcard required for decryption is solely issued to Austrian households.
The Servus TV version for Germany will remain unencrypted on Astra. The channel will show different programmes during the MotoGP coverage.
