Portuguese public broadcaster RTP plans to launch HD versions of its channels in 2017, and the government has submitted a plan to invest EUR37 mi in engineering, technology and infrastructure.
By 2018, public radio and television company will invest 37 million euros in these sectors. The main priority of the administration led by Gonçalo Reis is “starting investment of migration to HD for all of RTP’s TV channels, which will be completed in 2020,” states the Plan of Activities and Budget of the group,
In the second half of 2017, the flagship channel RTP 1 should be fully produced in HD, the other channels will follow with the completion of the process scheduled for 2020.
RTP hopes to “promote the necessary efforts to improve the quality of DTT distribution network and the technical quality of receptions on the part of viewers.”the PAO.
The pubcaster also wants to have two more channels on DTT – RTP3 and RTP Memória, for which the funds have not yet been cleared. The Portuguese Parliament will decide on the matter next week
