Sumner Redstone could be removed as chairman of Viacom Thursday after relinquishing the chairmanship of broadcaster CBS.
The US network said Redstone would be replaced by Leslie Moonves, who has been president and chief executive since 2006.
The aging media mogul, who’s now 92 and in poor health, is expected to step down from his Viacom role ahead of a board meeting.
However, there’s doubt over the succession process after Redstone’s daughter, Shari Redstone, said CEO Philippe Dauman would be unsuitable for the role as he was also a member of the family trust.
“It is my firm belief that whoever may succeed my father as Chair at each company should be someone who is not a Trustee of my father’s trust or otherwise intertwined in Redstone family matters, but rather a leader with an independent voice,” she said.
Dauman has also come in for criticism from some of Viacom’s investment shareholders, who believe his pay has risen too fast against a lack of growth in the company.
