O2 plans to enter the TV market in Slovakia, offering services via IPTV, the internet and mobile devices.
However, reports Medialne, given that the company does not have its own cable network in the country, its offer, which will initially consist of a basic 22-channel package, is likely to be mainly a mobile TV one.
It also intends to stream TV programmes, with reception being possible via any internet connection.
Slovakia’s Council for Broadcasting and Retransmission (RVR) received an application from O2 in January and will discuss it at its next meeting.
Meanwhile, Martina Jamrichová, a spokeswoman for the company, confirmed that it is working on the launch of a pilot commercial project for O2 TV in Slovakia. It will be a test run for a fixed number of customers and available for TVs and mobile devices.
O2 has operated a TV service in the neighbouring Czech Republic since 2006 and it currently has over 200,000 subscribers.
