Germany’s second largest cable operator Unitymedia will offer its customers high-speed internet access with a download data rate of up to 400Mbps from February 1, 2016.
The maximum upload data rate will amount to 20Mbps. More than 40% of the 12.7 million cable households within the coverage area of the Liberty Global subsidiary in federal states North-Rhine Westphalia, Hessen and Baden-Württemberg will be able to sign up to the new service from its launch day.
The new Max 400 tariff is offered to private customers from €64.99 per month with a two-year minimum contract period.
Unitymedia is the first large cable operator in Germany to introduce 400Mbps; its previous maximum speed was 200Mbps. Smaller cable company Tele Columbus has been offering 400Mbps since April 2015, but only in the cities of Potsdam and Jena.
