The Czech incumbent O2 ended 2015 with 202,000 subscribers to its digital TV service O2 TV, or 10% more than a year earlier.
Furthermore, its O2 TV mobile application had been downloaded almost 600,000 times as of year’s end.
Take-up of O2 TV was boosted by the launch of the proprietary channel O2 Sport. The telco also introduced a new set-top box in December that allows O2 TV to be watched in any household in the Czech Republic irrespective of the ISP.
O2’s strong financial performance in 2015 saw its net profit increase by 44.5% over the previous year to CZK5.077 billion (€187.8 million). Consolidated operating revenue stabilised at CZK37.385 billion and EBITDA was up by 24.7% to CZK10.142 billion.
Commenting on the results, Tomás Budník, CEO and the chairman of the board of directors of O2 Czech Republic, said: “We significantly improved and simplified our digital television O2 TV, launched (a) brand new sport channel and offered this service to all households in the Czech Republic”.
