TVP’s new president Jacek Kurski has revealed that the broadcaster plans to launch a new channel named Poland24.
Wirtualne Media reports that it would make its debut in 2018, to coincide with the 100th anniversary of Poland regaining its independence.
The channel would also be based outside Poland, with London being considered as a possible location.
Meanwhile, a blog by Satkurier says the channel would initially be offered in English, with Russian the next most likely language to be added.
It would in all probably try to secure distribution in Europe on Hot Bird at 13 degrees East and Astra at 19.2 degrees East and also aim to reach the US market.
In terms of format, Poland24 is likely to resemble Deutsche Welle rather than the higher budget France 24 or indeed BBC World.
