German cable operator Unitymedia has enabled remote recording on its multimedia box Horizon.
The function allows the owners of the Horizon HD recorder using mobile service Horizon Go to set up recordings of TV programmes from outside their home, for example in the office. This can be done both through the smartphone/tablet app and Horizon Go’s website.
Within Horizon Go, users can select the programme to record from the TV schedules of the upcoming seven days and press the red recording button. This is possible on all channels the customer has signed up for at Unitymedia.
The Horizon HD recorder in the living room then receives the order to record the programme through the internet. The precondition is that the box is in standby mode in order to be able to pick up the signal and that there are at least 10 minutes for the selected programme to commence.
Following the recording, users can watch the programme through the recorder on their TV set at home. The mobile recording function which was announced in February 2015 is free of charge and can be used on any internet connection, for example a mobile network or a Wi-Fi hotspot.
