12% of all French households now subscribe to at least one SVOD service, according to research from Mediametrie.
In 2015, 65% of all French internet users are familiar with SVOD and 12% have taken a subscription. The market is mainly driven by Canalplay and Netflix.
Netflix launched in France in September 2014, and 62% of all SVOD users took out the free month subscription and continued subscribing to Netflix.
Young adults and children are over-represented compared with the national average.
73% of all current SVOD subscribers say they are satisfied and plan to continue to buy SVOD services, citing ease of use, as well as the ability to watch legal content.
Mediametrie expects that the arrival of hybrid services such as Zive or Molotov, which will offer both SVOD and linear channels, will further change the market.
