Orange and Vodafone have failed in their bid to secure access to RCS&RDS’s fixed line network in Romania.
ZF reports that this follows the EC’s decision to support, without any comment, the Romanian regulator ANCOM’s rejection of the two companies’ request for access.
ANCOM has now deregulated the wholesale access to infrastructure, basing this on the EC’s decision, which was announced at the end of December.
Its argument for doing so, supported by the EC, is that the Romanian retail market is very dynamic and highly competitive, with over 60% of internet connections now offering access speeds of at least 30 Mbps and prices the second lowest in the EU.
Significantly, Romania is the only country in the EU to have adopted such a measure.
