Orange and Telekom Romania have signed a landmark agreement that could have far-reaching implications on the country’s electronic communications industry.
ZF reports that the deal, which used the code name Apolodor, followed two years of secret negotiations between the two parties.
Quoting several industry sources, it adds that it will see Telekom gain access to Orange’s 4G network through a national roaming agreement and Orange offer fixed services, including IPTV, through Telekom’s infrastructure.
Orange’s 4G network reaches 70% of Romania’s population, while Telekom’s fibre network covers over 1.3 million households.
The deal will strengthen the positions of both Orange and Telekom in a highly competitive market in which RCS&RDS and UPC Romania are the two other key players.
