The Slovak national commercial broadcaster Joj Group has extended its DVB-T transmission capacity contract with Towercom.
As a result, it will be able to continue distributing its channels terrestrially until at least 2021. The channels in question, which are licensed to Mac TV, are Joj, Plus, Wau, Senzi and Joj Cinema.
Commenting on the development, Roman Fischer, the CEO of Towercom, said that it is preparing a number of advanced supplementary services for broadcasters, including HbbTV.
Although only a third of Slovak households currently watch free TV channels on DVB-T, Fischer added that Towercom plans to increase the coverage of the first multiplex to levels already reached with the second multiplex.
It is also preparing to develop its network in the DVB-T2 standard and expand broadcasting in HD.
