With the release of its new generation streaming video box last month, Apple has opened the race for supremacy in the app universe on German TV screens.
In a new Snapshot, German research company Veed Analytics examines the market for streaming video clients in Germany and the competitive situation between Apple, Amazon, Roku and Google.
The focus is on video applications as they are the main drivers and success factors for these devices, according to the researchers. Apple already attracted a fair amount of relevant video apps for Apple TV 4, coming in second after Amazon Fire TV.
Amazon is the clear market leader providing access to 64% of relevant video apps while Apple just offers access to 50%. The difference is due to broadcaster applications which are mostly not yet available on Apple TV 4.
Gaming could also proliferate the ecosystem and make streaming video devices more attractive for consumers by establishing a complementary gaming world beyond Sony Playstation and Microsoft’s Xbox mainly focused on casual games.
