Zattoo launches free VOD service

December 10, 2015 08.13 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

Zattoo VOD StartscreenInternet TV provider Zattoo has launched a free-of-charge VOD service on its platform in Germany, raising competition in the German OTT market.

At launch, the VOD section contains 150 programmes from Spiegel TV, Studio Hamburg and Fashion TV with content from further partners such as ProSiebenSat.1 to follow in the next weeks. Some of the titles will be available on-demand for the first time in Germany.

The advertising-supported VOD service which is free for registered Zattoo users marks another important step to position itself as a central hub for TV content on the internet, according to Zattoo. The target was to make as many programmes available on demand as possible including the content of the catch-up portals of all TV channels, the company added.

The VOD service is currently available on the Zattoo website and within the Windows 10 app. It will be included in the Zattoo apps for iPhone, iPad and Android-based smartphones and tablets in Q1 2016. Zattoo also wants to roll out the service to connected TV sets, for example through Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV and Android TV.
