Telefónica will launch video services – mostly VOD and linear TV channels – in seven new markets in Latin America in 2016.
The launches, in Ecuador, Uruguay, Panama, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala and Nicaragua, will be staggered throughout the year.
Commenting on the development, Luis Delamer, director of Telefónica’s Video Unit of Latin America, said: “At Telefónica we are reaffirming our commitment to Latin America and we have the goal of becoming the first pay-TV company in the world in Spanish and Portuguese. This year we have become the leading provider of high-definition content, and we continue to grow throughout the region. Furthermore, in 2016, we are going to market our video services in more than twice the number of countries that we do today”.
The Spanish telco already has a strong presence in Latin America, offering a range of IPTV, DTH, cable, VOD and OTT services in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Peru and Venezuela.
