Maltese capital operator Melita is in the process of being sold to Apax France and Fortino Capital.
The network is already held by a consortium of private equity businesses; GMT Communications Partners, MC Venture Partners, Blackrock Communications and the Gasan Group.
The agreement is subject to the approval of local regulatory authorities.
“This transaction further highlights that Melita is recognised as one of the more advanced telecommunications players in Europe with converged fixed cable and mobile networks and services. With the support of these new shareholders, Melita will be able to continue its investment programme and growth benefiting consumers, businesses and the country as a whole”, commented Andrei Torriani, CEO, Melita.
The new owners bring experience from earlier involvement in Numericable Belgium & Luxembourg, Cabovisao, Outremer Telecom, Telenet, Primacom and KPN.
Melita runs a nationwide 3G service and provides nationwide Wi-Fi across Maltra and neighbouring Gozo.
