The Polish national transmission company EmiTel has begun talks with the country’s Office of Electronic Communications (UKE) about securing frequencies on what will be the country’s fifth DTT multiplex.
Quoted by Satkurier, EmiTel’s president Przemyslaw Kurczewski said that should it be granted the currently unused frequencies, in the 470-790 MHz band, the multiplex (MUX-5) could be launched within a year.
Capacity on the multiplex would be offered to HD services operated by existing broadcasters.
DTT services in Poland at present use almost the entire UHF band, including frequencies within 700 MHz.
In Kurczewski’s view, this situation will continue until 2022/23, after which there will be discussions as to how to proceed.
