Almost one in four (24.4%) of homes in Spain received pay-TV services as of the end of H1, according to data published by the regulator CNMC.
This was an 11.4% increase on the corresponding figure in 2014. At the same time, over three-quarters (79.4%) received internet services, a 13.4% increase on a year earlier. Just under three-quarters (72.7%) had fixed broadband, of which 22.8% was fibre-optic. Interestingly, around 16% of homes with fixed broadband were unaware of the download speeds they were offered.
Monthly spend on bundled services fell in H1, down from €67.9 in the corresponding period in 2014 to €65.9; from €51.2 to €47.1 for quad play; and €39.7 to €38.2 for double play.
The most popular combination of services was fixed telephony, mobile telephony and internet, enjoyed by 49.4% (46.1% in 2014) of homes. This was followed by fixed telephony, mobile telephony, internet and pay-TV with 21.9% (17.5%).
Significantly, the most popular reason, chosen by almost half (49.8%) of homes, for opting for pay-TV was that it was offered with other telecom services.
