WATCH VIDEO. French free-to-view satellite platform Fransat on the Eutelsat satellite will be broadcasting all its channels in HD from December 1.
At the same time, Fransat has launched a new brand identity.
The DTH platform broadcasts all the digital terrestrial channels as a service to those people who have no access to the DTT network, which is called TNT in France. Viewers need to buy a dedicated Fransat receiver, or a compatible CI+ module, and smart card for a one-off fee to watch the channels.
The DTT network will switch to all-HD in April, 2016, and the satellite platform follows suit.
Fransat will simulcast the channels in SD until April next year, but is already offering all channels in HD to its viewers. The Eutelsat subsidiary is delivered from 5 degrees West.
Fransat offers a total of 25 national channels in HD, as well as a number of thematic and local channels including BFM Business, TV5Monde, KTO, QVC, Mont Blanc 8 and others.
For viewers with a 4K receiver, there is also an Ultra HD demo channel available, while people with an internet-connected receiver also have access to a catch-up TV service.
In addition the to free-to-view offer, Fransat also offers four premium add-ons: the Pack Famille offers the channels from the bouquet BIS TV (Groupe AB), the Pack Sport has beIN Sports 1 and 2, Pack Cinéma offers four channels from OCS (Orange Cinema Series) and the Pack Musique has just one channel, Melody.
