The Finnish government has handed a 10 year licence renewal to DNA.
The ten-year licence for multiplexes VHF A, VHF B and VHF C, commencing January 2017, include an obligation to cover 80% of the population – a figure exceeded by DNA in 2010 when it reached 85% of the population.
“DNA’s entry into the terrestrial TV network market has markedly diversified the offering in this network. Our aim is to continue with the diversification further. The operating licences granted to DNA are also the best way to promote the offering of high-definition broadcasts,” said Pekka Väisänen, Senior Vice President, Consumer Business. “Terrestrial TV network operators in separate networks guarantee competition. This will definitively be an advantage for terrestrial-network homes both as regards the diversity of the offering, and price levels,” says Väisänen.
In addition to DTT, DNA is also Finland’s largest cable operator. It offers 20 high definition channels on its DTT network, including four channels from public broadcaster YLE.
