The leading Czech and Slovak DTH platform Skylink has begun trialing the distribution of encrypted channels via DVB-T.
Parabola reports that the tests are being undertaken in Prague and environs on the regional network RS4 and in cooperation with Prague Digital TV (PDTV). It adds that their purpose is to verify the technical compatibility of reception equipment available on the market.
RS4 currently distributes eight FTA services, all in MPEG-4 and SD, along with Joj Cinema (MPEG-2/SD) and Filmbox Family (MPEG-4/SD).
Owners of Skylink cards will now have the opportunity to watch the later two services on DTT free of charge providing they live within the coverage area of RS4.
The trail will last around three months.
