The Russian DTH platform NTV-Plus has closed the acquisition of the internet portal Sportbox.ru.
In a statement, it says that as a result it has completed the acquisition of VGTRK (RTR) assets, in accordance with an order by the president of the Russian Federation, to establish a national public sports TV channel.
The previous acquisitions were of NST, the founder of Match TV, as well RTR’s non-terrestrial thematic channels Sport, Sport 1, Sport 1 HD and Fight Club.
Commenting on the acquisition, Aleksander Vronsky, general director of NTV-Plus, said: “Closing of the transaction is not a simple legal formality. The consolidation of assets – a key step in the creation of a new national sports TV and the formation of the sub-holding “Match” as a whole.
”The internet is the most important medium of propagation of sports content. Therefore, we pay serious attention to the development of the portal Sportbox.ru and inserting it into a single information system. ”
