China Telecom has emerged as a possible bidder for the Serbian incumbent Telekom Srbija.
Quoted by B92, Tajana Matic, the state secretary at Serbia’s Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications, said that a meeting between the Serbian government and representatives of China Telecom has already taken place.
She added that the interest is there and the Chinese company can buy the tender documents.
Bids for Telekom Srbija are due to be announced on November 16. They are likely to include one from Deutsche Telekom, through the US investment fund Apollo.
As of last month, a total of eight companies, among them the EBRD, Mid Europa Partners and Telekom Slovenije, were understood to have already submitted non-binding bids for the telco.
