Liberty Global is introducing a next generation Wi-Fi and telephony gateway.
Deployments are already underway with Telenet customers in Belgium and UPC customers in Romania. It’s anticipated the Arris and Compal-manufactured devices will be rolled out across Liberty’s European footprint. Each operator will distribute a gateway that has been locally branded.
The new high-speed modem was on show at the Liberty Global stand at the Amsterdam IBC show last September.
Doron Hacmon, Managing Director, Products and Online Media Group, Liberty Global, said, “Our next-generation Wi-Fi and telephony gateway enables us to maximise the impact of our high-speed fiber networks across Europe by giving our customers a better, faster and even more reliable internet experience. Our customers rightly demand seamless Wi-Fi connectivity both in and out of the home, and we will continue to focus relentlessly on providing them with a best-in-class experience, wherever they happen to be.”
The device will enable broadband download speeds of up to 1 Gbps across Liberty’s existing EuroDOCSIS 3.0 platform. Software developed by Celeno will enable it to optimise the highest possible speeds over Wi-Fi to multiple devices.
The launch of the next-generation Wi-Fi and telephony gateway marks the first time that Liberty Global has designed a universal, locally-branded broadband product to be rolled out across its European and Latin American markets.
