French IPTV operator Free has launched Festival 4K, the first native 4K/UltraHD TV channel in the basic offer of its Freebox package on fibre.
Free launched the first 4K set-top box in March 2015 and is now also the first operator to distribute a 4K TV channel, marking a new key step in the development of the 4K ecosystem.
Festival 4K is the first TV channel that is 100% 4K native, and is entirely dedicated to music festivals , concerts, entertainment events and theatrical productions. It is a Dutch channel launched by the creators of the Brava and Djazz.tv channels.
Festival 4K broadcasts pop concerts by artists such as Kylie Minogue (the Kiss Me Once 2014 World Tour) as well as classical music concerts such as the Lang Lang concert at the Royal Albert Hall . It will also offer rock and pop festivals, ballets, jazz, soul, blues, and Latin music concerts, opera , contemporary circus and magic shows, and dance music events.
This new 4K channel is available to Freebox mini 4K subscribers on fibre.
Fesival 4K was first announced at the MIP 2015 in Cannes last April.
