Fibre-optic TV services have been launched in Poland by the Poznan-based company Evio Polska.
They are operating under the brand name Telewizja Swiatlowodowa, which was introduced at an annual congress of pay-TV operators and experts held in Kraków at the end of October.
The brand will be used by over 100 local fibre-optic networks throughout Poland, with their offers being aimed at customers wishing to receive all their multimedia services from a single provider.
Evio says that what distinguishes fibre-optics from other technologies is the internet access speeds it offers, which are over three times faster than DOCSIS, over 10 times faster than xDSL and almost 20 times faster than LTE.
There is also huge growth potential for FTTH technology in Poland, with its penetration still a low 0.65%.
Commenting on the launch, Mariusz Filipiak, chairman of the board at Evio Polska, said: “We are convinced that Telewizja Swiatlowodowa will change the map of the Polish pay-TV market. The use of fiber optics opens up new opportunities for us, so that local operators will be able to offer subcribers the fastest internet speeds as well as the highest quality digital TV service. A rich and financially attractive offer is a tool for making subscribers loyal , which is necessary for the dynamic growth of any local network. ”
