The 7.5% stake in Euronews owned by the Russian state media company VGTRK has been frozen following a court order.
Quoting VGTRK, The Moscow Times reports that the move is part of a $50 billion damages case brought by ex-shareholders in the defunct Russian oil company Yukos.
Pyotr Fyodorov, an executive at VGTRK, confirmed the move, though added that it would not affect the broadcaster’s cooperation with Euronews.
Although the move means that VGTRK cannot sell the stake, Fyodorov said it had no intention of doing so anyway.
VGTRK has held a stake in Euronews since 2001, when the channel began to broadcast in Russia.
