Discovery Networks has applied for licences to operate up to three channels on Poland’s upcoming eighth DTT multiplex (MUX-8).
Speaking to Wirtualne Media, Olgierd Dobrzynski, country manager Discovery Networks CEEMEA and Eurosport for Central Europe, said that Poland is one of the most important markets in the world for Discovery. The company wants to expand, hence its decision to participate in the competition for slots on the multiplex.
The three channels Discovery has applied for licences for are Eurka TV, a 24-hour, interactive service; lifestyle-based Forma TV; and Lokalna TV, a documentary and information based channel. All would be produced in partnership with local companies.
Dobrzynski added that Discovery is also increasing the amount of programming it produces in Poland. It will amount of over 100 hours this year and will be doubled in 2016.
Discovery previously applied for a licence on Poland’s first multiplex but failed in its bid.
