Poland’s National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT) will recommend necessary changes to the law on radio and TV in order to guarantee competition in the digital environment.
In a statement, the regulator says that the degree of concentration of capital in the media market is one of the main determinants of pluralism in the media market. Furthermore, the monitoring of concentration is important for the proper functioning of the market.
The KRRiT adds that it has analysed the current provisions of the law on radio and TV and concluded that they do not sufficiently protect pluralism in Poland. In doing so, it liked at solution adopted to protect pluralism in 20 markets, 19 of which belonged to the EU and the European Economic Area, with the other being the US.
Its proposals will be submitted to the competition authority UOKiK, and subsequently the Minister of Culture and National Heritage.
