The Czech national commercial broadcaster FTV Prima plans to launch two more channels by the end of this year.
Parabola reports that the first, known as Prima Max, will focus on foreign productions and in particular films.
Targeting a middle-aged audience, it will, be distributed by the third DTT multiplex, which is operated by the Czech Digital Group (CDG) and already carries the Prima channels Prima Zoom and Prima Love.
Meanwhile, the second channel, known as Prima Comedy Central, will be owned and introduced by Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN). It will be distributed on the fourth DTT multiplex, operated by Digital Broadcasting.
Due to launch in December, Prima Comedy Central will be the first FTA service in the Czech Republic developed jointly with a well-known foreign company.
Commenting on Prima Max, Marek Singer, CEO of FTV Prima, said: “The new Prima Max channel with prevailing film content will suitably complement our offer within the multi-channel strategy where each of our stations has a clearly profiled programme offer”.
Bartosz Witak, general manager of Viacom International Media Networks CEE & Israel, said about Prima Comedy Central: “We are happy to launch a new comedy channel, which will make available our own best premium content offering for a wider audience also in the Czech Republic. Spot sales together with Prima Group, as well as branding of our channel, will provide essential support for Viacom’s Comedy Central to become the favourite channel of Czech comedy lovers”.
