The DTG has called on the BBC to champion innovation and open standards in digital and wireless communication technology.
In its response to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport consultation into the BBC Charter review, the DTG says collaborative innovation in digital media technology would benefit both consumers and the UK economy.
Richard Lindsay-Davies, CEO of the DTG, said: “The BBC is a globally-respected organisation which has played a leading role in innovation and defining technology standards and best practice through open collaboration.
“The DTG believes that the BBC should continue to be able to do that, with the support of advice from the digital and wireless communication technology industry.”
In its response the DTG says the BBC should continue to support open standards and maintain a critical mass of technical knowledge and excellence to support the deployment of a world class UK infrastructure.
The submission echoes a call by techUK for the BBC to be given a remit to support technology.
