The Hungarian-American film producer Andrew G. Vajna is set to become the new owner of TV2, one of Hungary’s two leading commercial TV stations.
BBJ and Figyelo report that Vajna, who is the government commissioner in charge of the Hungarian film industry, has already signed the contracts to take over TV2, while its current owners Zsolt Simon and Yvonne Dederick will do so shortly.
Vajna, who is reportedly close to the ruling Fidesz party, will take out a loan of over HUF20 billion (€64.3 million) to cover the cost of the acquisition.
It will still require the approval of the National Competition Office (GVH) and should be completed by the end of the year.
